CHESTER, Pa. – Ryan Hammer scored twice as the Arcadia men's soccer team fell 3-2 to Widener in overtime on Wednesday evening at Hirschmann/Quick Stadium.
The Knights fall to 3-7-1 (0-2-0 MACC) on the season while Widener improves to 6-4-1 (1-1-0 MACC).
The Knights took the lead in just the third minute, when Hammer beat the Widener keeper one on one, with an assist from Shade Foremen giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.
Widener answered in the 26th minute when Kevin McKenna beat goalkeeper Colin Day to tie the game at 1-1.
That match remained tied until the 55-minute mark. Hammer scored his second goal of the night on a free kick, giving the Knights a 2-1 lead.
Widener tied the match in the 68th minute when Shea Morgan scored on a header, evening the score at 2-2.
In overtime, Peter O'Connor netted the game winning goal with two seconds remaining, giving the Pride the victory.
IN GOAL: Day made five saves for the Knights, while John Warwick stopped two in goal for Widener.
BY THE NUMBERS: Arcadia was outshot 16-8 in the match, totaling four shots on goal while Widener had nine … Widener had the advantage in corner kicks in the match 8-1 … This is Hammer's first two-goal game of the season.
