GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia women's volleyball team advanced to its second straight MAC Commonwealth Championship game with a 3-1 win over Lebanon Valley on Wednesday night in Alumni Gymnasium.
The second-seeded Knights improve to 22-11 on the season, while No. 3 Lebanon Valley falls to 17-12. Set scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-20, 25-10.
Lauren Enfield and
Shannon Ryan had 13 kills each, and
Maddie Sehrt added 11 while hitting .526, to pace the Knights offensively.
Emily Eng led the Knights with 18 digs and
Julia Paliwodzinski had 45 assists, four blocks and added nine digs for Arcadia.
Allison Elechko narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and nine digs while also contributing four service aces. Sehrt added six blocks.
Arcadia won the first set 25-16, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead. The Dutchmen cut the Knights' lead to one, making the score 6-5. Arcadia answered, scoring five of the next six points, a run which was capped off with a Lebanon Valley attack error, making the score 11-6.
Leading 19-12, the Knights scored four straight points, which included two kills from Enfield, extending the Knights' lead to 22-12, ultimately winning the first set and taking a 1-0 lead in the match.
In set two, Arcadia took the lead midway through the frame, scoring four straight points after being down 13-11, a run which included two block assists by
Maddie Sehrt and
Lauren Enfield to take a 14-13 advantage.
The Dutchmen answered, scoring four straight points late in the frame after the set was tied at 17-17, to take a 21-17 lead, and taking set two 25-20.
Midway through a back-and-fourth set three with the Knights trailing 14-13, Arcadia scored five straight points, which was capped off by a service ace from
Allison Elechko, giving the Knights an 18-14 lead. The Knights were able to hold off the Dutchmen, taking the third frame and a 2-1 lead in the match.
The fourth set was all Arcadia. The Knights stormed out to a 13-5 advantage midway through the set, a run which included a stretch of scoring seven of eight points. The Knights cruised form there, to take the 3-1 victory.
Arcadia will face No. 1 seed Stevenson on Saturday in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game, which will begin at 7 p.m. The contest is a rematch of last season's title bout, which the Mustangs won 3-1.
