GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Arcadia field hockey team advanced to the ECAC championship game after a 2-0 shutout of Ithaca on Saturday afternoon. This is the Knights' second trip to the ECAC Championship game in program history. With the win, the Knights also set a new single-season record for wins in a season.
The Knights improve to 16-6 on the season, while Ithaca falls to 13-7.
Arcadia took the lead midway through the first half. In the 15th minute,
Carly Flickinger stole the ball from an Ithaca defender, and took a shot that beat Ithaca goalie Savanna Lenker, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead. Arcadia would take its one-goal advantage into halftime.
Shortly after thaca called timeout, the Knights added an insurance goal in the 65th minute, when
Lindsay Bechtold stick handled around a defender, and fired a shot that beat Lenker, making the score 2-0.
Arcadia was able to hang on from that point, and secure the two-goal victory and advance to the ECAC Championship game.
IN GOAL: Ashton Evans played all 70 minutes in goal for the Knights, making one save. Lenker played all 70 minutes for Ithaca, making five stops and allowing two goals.
BY THE NUMBERS: This is the Knights' first trip to the ECAC championship game since 2014, when Arcadia fell 2-1 to Stevenson … Bechtold and Flickinger have each scored in two consecutive games … The Knights' shutout is their 10th this season and third in their last five contests … The Knights totaled nine shots with seven on goal, while Ithaca had two with one on goal … Arcadia had five penalty corner opportunities in the win, while Ithaca had two.
