CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Arcadia women's basketball was defeated 104-66 by DeSales on Wednesday evening.
Â
Taylor Dunn, fresh off a MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week nod, led the Knights (1-1) with 15 points, including a 10 for 10 showing at the charity stripe, while
Sydney Cyr added 12 points and six rebounds in her first game since rejoining the team after the conclusion of Arcadia's field hockey season.
Â
After a falling behind 9-0 to begin the game, the Knights used a 9-3 run to pull within 12-9 on a Cyr jumper with 3:53 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs closed out the period on a 6-3 run and took an 18-11 lead into the second.
Â
Still leading by seven early in the second quarter, a 10-2 burst by the Bulldogs, in which they hit four consecutive shots from the floor, gave the home team a 31-15 lead and led to a 30-point quarter for DeSales and a 48-30 lead at the break.
Â
Dunn scored the first five points of the second half for the Knights as AU pulled within 15 points at 50-35, but that would be as close as the Knights would get as DeSales steadily built on its lead the remainder of the contest.
Â
The Knights drew 33 fouls and got to the line an astounding 50 times, making good on 27 attempts led by Dunn's 10 for 10 showing. In all, three different Knights shot at least 10 free throws.
Julia Makowski and
Jamie Manzo each scored eight points for the Knights, and
Camille Menns chipped in five rebounds. Cyr added a team-high five steals and Menns and
Asya Alba each handed out three assists.
Â
Leandra Sterner and Juliana Tritto each scored 15 points for the Bulldogs. Rylie Rittenhouse had eight rebounds and Morgan Birmelin dished out 14 assists.
Â
Arcadia takes on Emory & Henry on Friday at 8 p.m. at Randolph-Macon.
