ASHLAND, Va. – The Arcadia women's basketball team fell 88-74 to Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon.
Taylor Dunn led the Knights (1-3) with 28 points on 11 of 20 shooting and 10 boards for a double-double, while
Camille Menns scored 18 points and added eight rebounds.
Asya Alba also scored in double figures with 10 points.
The game was close early on. Menns hit a jumper followed by a layup on back-to-back Arcadia possessions, to make the score 4-4 with 8:08 to play in the first quarter.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1) then went on a 9-2 run, which made the score 13-6 with 4:44 remaining. The Knights closed the gap to four, when Dunn hit two jump shots in a row, making the score 14-10 with 4:07 remaining. The Knights' deficit swelled to 13, trailing 23-10 after the first quarter.
The Knights cut their deficit to 12 after a Menns layup with 9:14 to play in the opening half. Arcadia tried to cut into its deficit, scoring on three straight possessions, but its deficit remained at 12 points (30-18) with 8:30 to play.
Later in the quarter after the Knights' deficit stretched to 19 (47-28) with 1:57 remaining, Arcadia closed the half on a 6-0 run, which included a three-pointer by
Caitlin Jensen, to cut the deficit to 13, and make the score 47-34 at halftime.
Arcadia scored the first five points of the second half, with
Sydney Cyr hitting a jumper followed by a three from Dunn, to pull within eight (39-47) with 9:22 remaining in the quarter.
Randolph Macon stretched its lead to 18 (39-57) with 5:00 left. The Knights closed the third quarter on a 12-4 run, which was capped by a Dunn layup, to pull the Knights within 10 (61-51) heading into the final stanza.
The Knights were unable to draw closer in the fourth quarter, falling to the Yellow Jackets.
Jensen added eight points for the Knights and Alba had four assists. The Knights shot 38 percent from the field (27-71) and 40 percent (4-10) from beyond the arc in the contest.
Kelly Williams had 29 points and 18 rebounds to pace Randolph-Macon and Lauren Lewis added 16 points for the Yellow Jackets.
The Knights are back in action on Tuesday when they host Gwynedd Mercy at 6 p.m.
