CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Four players scored in double figures as the Arcadia men's basketball team defeated DeSales 77-68, on Wednesday night to improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Knights were paced by
Phil Pierfy, who scored a season-high 23 points on 8 of 14 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.
Da'Kquan Davis scored 14 point and grabbed five boards.
Evan Slone netted 13 points and had nine rebounds to finish just shy of a double-double.
Josh Scott also scored 13 points, and had four rebounds.
Trailing the Bulldogs 8-6 with 13:32 remaining in the half, DeSales went on a 11-0 run, to take a 13-point lead (19-6) with 8:36 to play in the opening half.
The Knights closed the gap to just five, going on a 13-5 run over the next 3:49, which was capped by a Pierfy jumper, making the score 24-19. Arcadia proceeded to close the half on a 11-2 run, which was capped by a Davis layup with 0:34 to play in the half, to give the Knights a 30-27 lead heading to the break.
DeSales opened the second half with an 8-3 run, taking a 35-33 lead with 16:22 to play. The Knights responded by scoring 14 unanswered points over the next 4:35, which began with a
Jon Lott layup and was capped with a two free throws from Scott, to take a 12-point lead (47-35) with 11:12 left in the game.
The Knights continued to extend their lead, leading by as many as 15 in the second half (72-57) following a 13-7 run that was capped by a Davis triple with 2:53 to play.
DeSales tried to close the gap down the stretch, but the Knights converted free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.
The Knights shot 43.6 percent (24 for 55) from the field in the win, and were 5 of 13 (38.5 percent) from beyond the arc. Arcadia scored 16 of its points on fast breaks, opposed to just eight fast break points for the Bulldogs. The Knights also had more than double second chance points than DeSales. Arcadia had 16 second chance points while the Bulldogs had six. The Knights out rebounded DeSales 41-32 in the win, and had 10 offensive rebounds compared to DeSales' five.
The Knights are back in action on Saturday when they host Hood at 3 p.m.
