GLENSIDE, Pa. --
Kyle Reilly knocked down a go-ahead jumper with 33 seconds to play, then came up with a key blocked shot to help the Arcadia men's basketball team hold off Hood 78-74 on Saturday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
Â
Da'Kquan Davis led the Knights with 18 points, including an 8 for 8 showing at the free-throw line, while
Evan Slone (17) and
Phil Pierfy (14) scored in double figures as well. Slone added nine boards, and
Josh Scott had nine points and six rebounds.
Â
Tied at 74-74 with 1:01 to play, the Knights (5-2, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) worked the shot clock all the way down before Scott found Reilly open on the left baseline for a 15-footer that gave AU a 76-74 lead with 33 seconds to play. The Blazers (6-2, 1-1) pushed the ball up the floor quickly and called timeout with 28 seconds on the clock.
Â
Out of the stoppage, Evan Wang drove hard to his right and tried to draw contact from Reilly, who blocked the layup attempt to preserve the two-point lead. Davis, who had secured the defensive rebound, knocked down a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to play to make it a two-possession game and cap the game's scoring.
Â
The Knights held an 11-point lead (61-50) with 10:18 remaining before the Blazers began steadily inching closer. An 18-7 run for Hood over the next nearly seven minutes tied the contest at 68-68 with 3:29 to play. The Blazers hit on 7 of 12 shots from the floor while holding AU to 3 of 9 shooting with four turnovers in getting back in the contest.
Â
Following Evan Wang's layup that tied the game, Davis put the Knights back on top (71-68) with a three-point play. The Blazers, however, scored the next five points to take a 73-71 lead with 2:00 showing on the clock. It marked the first time since the score was 31-29 at the 3:16 mark of the first half that Hood held a lead.
Â
After falling behind for the first time since late in the first half, Scott found an open Davis, who drilled a three pointer to give the lead back to Arcadia, 74-73, and set up the game's final moments.
Â
Arcadia trailed by as many as seven (27-20) in the first half, but closed the opening stanza on a 20-5 run to take a 40-32 lead into the break. Over the final six minutes of the first half, the Knights held Hood to 2 of 8 shooting, while the Scarlet & Grey shot 7 of 9, including a pair of three's from Reilly.
Â

The Knights also limited the Blazers to 37.9 percent (25-66) shooting as a team; the fourth time this season that AU has held its opponent to under 40.0 percent as a team.
Â
Mason Wang led the Blazers with 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Michael Riley had 15 points, and Evan scored 10 with four helpers.
