Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Knights Top Alvernia, 72-63

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- Da'Kquan Davis scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half, and the Arcadia men's basketball rallied from a halftime deficit to knock off Alvernia 72-63 on Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

Davis was 5 of 7 from the floor in the second half, and he sparked a key second-half run in the game's final five minutes to put the game out of reach. Phil Pierfy added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Steve Pendleton and Kyle Reilly came off the bench to score 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Knights (6-2, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) held Alvernia to 38.9 percent (21-54) shooting as a team and outrebounded the Golden Wolves (3-5, 0-3) by seven (39-32).

Alvernia led 29-28 at the break before the Knights' offense began to click in the second half. A layup by Evan Slone to open play in the second gave the Knights a 30-29 lead that they would hold until the 12:58 mark when Alvernia's Nick Youngkin split a pair of free throws to put the visitors up 40-39.

Arcadia answered with a 10-2 run over the next 4:25 to take a 49-42 lead with 8:33 to play. Pendleton began the spurt with a putback inside, and Davis followed with a triple for a 44-40 lead with 11:32 left. Two minutes of scoreless play was broken when Pendleton split a pair at the line, before Reilly picked the pocket of Justin Thomas and threw down a dunk in transition to make it 47-40 in favor of the Knights with 9:18 on the clock.

The Golden Wolves pulled to within two (51-49) by the 5:19 mark, but a 13-5 burst by the Knights pushed the lead to 64-54 with under three minutes to play and essentially sealed the game. Pierfy started things with a layup, Davis drained a three and followed with a layup on the break to make it 58-49. He then capped the run with a three-point play.

Alvernia never got closer than seven the remainder of the way.

The Golden Wolves led by as many as eight in the first half (14-6), but a 13-5 run by the Knights tied the game at 19-19 with 7:55 on the clock and kept the Scarlet & Grey in the game. Reilly, Pendleton and Davis each knocked down triples during the run.

The 24 points for Davis tied a season-high and marked the third time he has scored at least 20 points thus far. He also added six rebounds and a pair of assists. Josh Scott chipped in five points, six rebounds and three assists, while Pierfy also handed out three helpers and came up with a pair of steals.

Nick Youngkin led the Golden Wolves with 21 points and nine rebounds. Keon Taylor and Malik Green each scored 13 points for Alvernia, while shot just 3 of 16 (.188) from long range and committed 17 turnovers.

The Knights are at Lycoming on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
