GRANTHAM, Pa. –  90 minutes was not enough, as the second-seed Arcadia women's soccer team and top-seed Messiah required double overtime, with the Falcons defeating the Knights 1-0 in the MAC Commonwealth Championship game on Saturday evening.

The Knights fall to 12-5-3 on the season, while Messiah improves to 17-1-1.

The Falcons, who are ranked third nationally, had a chance to take the lead in the 11th minute, when Kayla Herr had free kick, but her shot sailed over the top of the net.

In the 21st minute, Veronica Pontis fired a shot from outside the box, that went just over top of the goal, keeping the contest scoreless. The game would remain 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, Messiah had a chance to break the scoreless tie in the 64th minute. Brooke Firestone's shot from left of the box was saved by Arcadia keeper Brianna Williams, keeping the contest tied.

Williams kept the match scoreless in the 71st minute, recovering after being out of position, to rob Jessie Fisher, and keep the match tied at 0-0.

In the first overtime, Veronica Garcia had a chance to win it. Garcia fired a shot from left of the six, but was wide with the opportunity.

Messiah had a corner kick opportunity in the final minute of the first overtime. Firestone hit a header too high, keeping the match scoreless and forcing a second overtime.

In the second overtime and 106th minute, Firestone beat Williams one on one from the middle of the box, to win the MAC Commonwealth title for Messiah.
