Knights Cruise Past Wilson 10-0 in ECAC Quarterfinal

GLENSIDE, Pa. –  Lauren Dougherty and Lindsay Bechtold each netted hat tricks, as the Arcadia field hockey team tied its single-season record in wins with 15, with a 10-0 win over Wilson in the ECAC quarterfinals on Wednesday evening at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.

The Knights improve to 15-6 on the season and advance to the ECAC semifinals for the second time in program history, while Wilson falls to 10-7.

It took Arcadia just 15 minutes to score the first goal of the contest. Gabby Sedares scored on a shot from just outside the circle, after a penalty corner was inserted by Isabelle Houser, to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.

Bechtold made the score 2-0 in the 25th minute, when she took a pass from Sedares just in front of the net, beating Phoenix goalie Brooke McLachlan.

Arcadia extended its lead to 3-0 in the 34th minute when Bechtold netted her second of the night, picking up a loose ball in front and depositing it behind McLachlan, giving the Knights a three-goal advantage heading into halftime.

The Knights kept the offense going in the second half, including a stretch of three goals in 1:58, which was started when Carly Flickinger scored after she deflected a shot by Sedares from the top of the circle, making the score 7-0. Bechtold and Dougherty finished out the three-goal stretch to secure their hat tricks.

The Knights added three more goals from that point, to cruise to the victory.

IN GOAL: Ashton Evans played 55:45 in goal for the Knights, while Allison Nikolaus played 8:53 and Catherine Bergmueller played 5:22. No Knight goalie was forced to make a save. McLachlan played 60:41 for the Phoenix, allowing nine goals and making 10 saves. Krista Nayadley played the final 9:19 for Wilson, allowing one goal and making one save.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Knights' 15 wins in a season matches the mark the team set in 2014 and 2012 … This is the most goals the Knights have scored in a game this season, surpassing the previous total of eight … This is the first time the Knights have scored 10 goals in a game since the 2012 season, a 10-1 win over Notre Dame of Maryland … The Knights totaled 30 shots in the win, with 23 on goal … Arcadia also had 21 penalty corners in the contest … The shots and shots on goal are each season highs … Sedares had a goal and two assists, giving her 32 points on the season which is a new career-high … Bechtold's hat trick is the first of her career and Dougherty's is her fourth.
