GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia men's volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of its own Knight Challenge. The Knights opened the day with a 3-1 win over Wilkes (25-12, 25-16, 24-26, 25-16), before falling to Kean 3-0 (17-25, 12-25, 22-25).
FOR THE RECORD:
- The Knights own a 6-5 record on the year, and are 3-0 in MAC play.
- Kean sits at 9-2, while Wilkes is 2-9 and 0-3 in the MAC.
Arcadia 3, Wilkes 1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The opening set was near even, as the teams traded short runs before Arcadia opened a lead of as many as five. With the score 14-11 in favor of the Scarlet and Grey, the Knights rattled off 10 straight points to take complete control. Highlighting the span was six consecutive service aces from sophomore Jason Manley.
- The momentum carried over to the second set, as the Knight methodically grew a lead to as many as 10 at 16-6. Arcadia staved off any attempt at a comeback before freshman Anthony Devantier capped the set with back-to-back kills.
- After Wilkes took a see-saw of a third set, the Knights simply outpaced the Colonels in the fourth set to claim their third conference win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:=
- As team, Arcadia hit .369, while totaling 68 points on 55 kills, 10 aces and three blocks.
- Sophomore Jarod Pichler led all players with a career-high 17 kills; he hit .452 in the match another career best.
- Manley racked up 16 points in the match with nine kills and career-best seven aces.
- Devantier dished out 40 assists.
Kean 3, Arcadia 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The start of the first set was a back-and-forth affair with neither squad able to gain control. The Cougars used an 11-3 run to jump in front 20-12 en route to claiming the set.
- Each team put together short spurts in the second set to keep the pressure on, however Kean was able to best the Knights.
- Arcadia held the lead for much of the final set before the Cougars broke a 20-20 tie with a match-ending 5-2 run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Arcadia totaled 33 points on 23 kills, two aces and eight blocks.
- Sophomore Robie Moctezuma led all players with seven total blocks.
- Manley and classmate Austin Braas paced the attack with six kills each.
