Softball Falls in Pair of Games on Monday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Arcadia softball team dropped two games Monday, falling to McDaniel, 6-4, and to SUNY Cortland, 8-0.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights fall to 1-5 on the season.
  • McDaniel advances to 4-6, while SUNY Cortland moves to 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Green Terror took a 2-0 lead, scoring a run in both the first and second innings, the Knights responded in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 2-1. Senior Amanda Hess led off the inning with a double to left field. After advancing to third on a groundout, Hess came around to score when senior Nicole Iasiello singled to center.
  • McDaniel added to its lead in the top of the fifth making it 7-1, however the Scarlet and Grey responded in the bottom half. With one away in the inning, sophomore Bekah Good reached on a fielder's choice. Sophomore Tori Zangrilli was the following batter, as she singled up the middle, advancing Good to third. Sophomore Hunter Schantz came in to pinch hit, singling up the middle, driving Good in.
  • The Knights continued their comeback in the bottom of the seventh, as junior Jackie Bilotti came to the plate, doubling to right center to start the inning. Iasiello followed up Bilotti's double with a single to left center, plating Bilotti from second. Sophomore Ashton Evans came into the game to pinch run for Iasiello, later advancing to second on a groundout. A few pitches later, Zangrilli reached on an error by the shortstop, with runners now on the corners. Freshman Jackie Zwicker entered to run for Zangrilli. Freshman Alexis Burge singled to left, driving Evans in and advancing Zwicker to second. The rally would however come up short, with McDaniel taking the game, 7-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Both Bilotti and Zangrilli went three-of-four with a double, while Bilotti also scored a run.
  • Freshman Alex DeStefano and Iasiello went two-of-four, with Iasiello driving in two runs.
  • Schantz and Burge each picked up one RBI.
SUNY Cortland 8, Arcadia 0 – F/6
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The game started as a pitcher's duel for the first three innings, until SUNY Cortland stormed off to take the victory. 
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia gets a day off tomorrow, before taking the field on Wednesday for two games. The Knights will face No. 12 Ramapo at 1:30 p.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran at 3:45 p.m.
