Cancelliere has Massive Day as Softball Splits Double Header

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Junior Kristin Cancelliere had an impressive performance Wednesday as the Arcadia softball team split a pair of games. The Knights fell to No. 15 Ramapo, 6-4, and dominated Western Lutheran (WLC), 11-3, in five innings. On the day, Cancelliere was three-for-five with a double, two triples, two runs scored, and five RBIs.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moves to 2-6 on the year.
  • Ramapo advances to 5-2, while WLC sits at 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After falling behind, 2-0, heading into the second, Arcadia responded in grand fashion in the top half. As the second batter of the inning, sophomore Tori Zangrilli drew a walk, before advancing to third on a double by Cancelliere. Junior Jackie Bilotti earned a walk as the next batter, loading the bases for senior Amanda Hess. With one swing of the bat, Hess drove a ball over the fence in left field for a grand slam.
  • The nationally ranked Roadrunners battled back, scoring runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take the game, 6-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Hess finished the game two-of-three with the homer and four RBIs.
  • Both Bilotti and Cancelliere went one-for-three, with Cancelliere notching the double.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights entered the bottom of the first down one run, however that didn't last long. In the bottom half, the Scarlet and Grey went off to score eight runs. In her first at bat of the inning, Bilotti singled to right field, later advancing to second on a stolen base. After Hess walked, with runners on first and second, Zangrilli singled to short, loading the bases. Freshman Alexis Burge was up next, singling to left field, driving in Bilotti. Two batters later, freshman Alex DeStefano singled to left field, plating Hess. With the bases still loaded, two batters later Cancelliere ripped the ball down the right field line, clearing the bases on a three-run triple. Freshman Alexa Vardiman was up next, as she singled up the middle, allowing Cancelliere to touch home. Vardiman stole second before Bilotti returned to the plate for her second at bat of the inning, this time driving a ball deep to right center for the homerun.
  • The Warriors responded with a run in the top of the second, however Arcadia answered in the bottom half of the inning. With sophomore Bekah Good on second and DeStefano on first, Canceelliere ripped a shot down the right field line, clearing the bases for her second triple of the game.
  • WLC responded in the third, plating one, however its efforts wouldn't be enough. In the bottom of the fifth, sophomore Hunter Schantz ended the game as she blasted a solo shot to center field.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Cancelliere finished the game two-for-two with two triples and five RBIs and one run scored.
  • Bilotti went two-for-three with the two-run homer and two runs.
  • Schantz picked up the solo shot, going one-for-one on the day.
  • Burge ended the game one-for-two with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Vardiman was one-for-two with an RBI and run scored.
  • Inside the circle, sophomore Kylie Schwind pitched five innings, picking up her first win of the season, with 10 strikeouts, allowing one earned run.
UP NEXT:
The Knights return to action tomorrow for a double header. First, they'll face Oswego St. at 11:15 a.m. and then finish the day with Millsaps at 1:30 p.m.
