Softball Splits Last Two Games in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Arcadia softball ended its spring break trip spitting the final double header of the week. The Knights beat Oswego St., 9-4, before falling to Millsaps, 6-3.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moves to 3-7 on the season.
  • Oswego St. sits at 4-4, Millsaps advances to 12-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Scarlet and Grey were quick on the offensive end. In the top of the first, junior Jackie Bilotti led off the inning with a single to left center, later stealing second. The following batter, senior Amanda Hess, singled to left, advancing Bilotti to third. Sophomore Tori Zangrilli was next, drawing a walk to load the bases. Freshman Alexis Burge came to the plate, as she rocked a double to left center, scoring Hess and Bilotti, while Zangrilli moved to third.
  • The Knights struck again in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs to bolster their lead, 8-0. With one away, junior Kristin Cancelliere had an infield single, later stealing second. Sophomore Mary Pat Murray was up next, as she singled up the middle, advancing Cancelliere to third. Murray stole second, setting up junior Kayla Resh with runners on second and third. Resh rocked a ball to right center, for a two-run double as Cancelliere and Murray scored. Freshman Alex DeStefano was up next, picking up an infield single, moving Resh to third. DeStefano stole second, before Bilotti picked up an infield single, driving Resh in. DeStefano and Bilotti each advanced on the throw. Senior Amanda Hess was at bat next, as she doubled to left center, driving in DeStefano and Bilotti. Zangrilli came up again, singling to left, advancing Hess to third. Burge was due up again, this time coming up with the suicide squeeze, scoring Hess.
  • Oswego St. battled back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth, however it wouldn't be enough. The Knights added insurance in the top of the seventh, as Cancelliere started off the inning with a single up the middle, followed by a stolen base. Cancelliere advanced to third on a ground out by Resh and then came in to score as sophomore Hunter Schantz singled to left.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Bilotti finished the game three-for-four with a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored.
  • Hess ended the game two-for-four with two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Burge went one-for-three with a double and three RBIs.
  • Resh drove in two runs on a double and a run scored.
  • Schantz was perfect as a pinch hitter with an RBI single.
  • In the circle, sophomore Kylee Schwind went 5.1 innings, striking out six batters, while only allowing three hits and no runs.
Millsaps 6, Arcadia 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Millsaps led 6-0 before the Knights got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. With one away, sophomore Ashley Eckett single before stealing second. With two away, senior Kaylee Zarick doubled, driving Eckett in.
  • The Scarlet and Grey didn't score again until the bottom of the seventh as they attempted a rally. Senior Nicole Iasiello walked, before Zarick reentered to pinch run. Bilotti was at the plate next, driving a double to left center to score Zarick. DeStefano put down a sacrifice, moving Bilotti to second before Schantz reached on an error, allowing Bilotti to score. Ultimately the rally was too late.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Bilotti finished with a hit, RBI and run scored.
  • Vardiman also chipped in a run on one hit.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia is back in action when it returns to Glenside for a conference double header against Lebanon Valley on Sunday. Games are slated for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
