PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Arcadia baseball team fell to Marietta 18-1 Tuesday afternoon. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Scarlet and Grey.
 
FOR THE RECORD:

• The Knights own a 5-2 mark on the year.
• The Pioneers moved to 6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Both teams got on the board in the second inning. In the bottom half of the frame, junior Nick Ponente plated sophomore Phil Pierfy with a two-out single to left field.
• The Pioneers went on to score in five of the final seven innings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Arcadia totaled eight base hits in the game.
• Juniors Bryan Gillen and Sean Carew recorded two hits each.
• Pierfy had the team's only extra-base hit, a double in the second inning.

ON THE HILL:

• Junior Joel Bartoni took the loss in his first start of the season allowing eight runs (six earned) with three strikeouts in three innings of work. Classmate Nick Roda fanned two over the next four innings, before senior Mark DiBattiste struck out three over the final two innings.
• Austin Eaton picked up the win for Marietta allowing one run on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work.

NOTES:

• Marietta is receiving votes in both the D3Baseball.com and ABCA/Collegiate Baseball polls.
• Gillen is on a seven-game hitting streak to open the year, while junior Luke Hohenstein has reached base in all seven games this season.
