Women’s Lacrosse Rallies Past Misericordia Behind Benites’ Six Points

GLENSIDE, Pa – Senior Allegra Benites scored six points on Saturday as Arcadia women's lacrosse won a back and fourth game against Misericordia, 15-13.

COACH SAYS
  • "We had a lot of players step up today which was great," said head women's lacrosse coach Sam Hosford. "I am very proud of how we played today and how high we set the bar for the rest of the season."
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Misericordia owned the first half by a slim margin, holding a 7-6 lead at the break. Benites started the scoring efforts, netting the first goal of the game on a dish from sophomore Jess Kaye. After the Cougars scored three straight, the Scarlet and Grey responded when senior Nicole Hutson buried a shot off of a pass from Kaye. The two sides traded the next four goals, with the Knights seeing scores from senior Marie Brockman (free position) and sophomore Julia Imbert on an assist from Benites. The visitors scored two straight before Arcadia ended the first half with Benites scoring off of a feed from Kaye and Brockman netting a free position.
  • The Knights ran away with the second half, outscoring Misericordia 9-6, to end the game on top. Arcadia scored the first two goals of the half as sophomore Shannon Ryan drilled a shot on a pass from Hutson. Sophomore Victoria Mollitor found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season, coming on an assist from Benites. The Knights finished the game on a 7-2 run over the final 20:17. The run started as Benites scored on a free position, followed by Mollitor burying a Ryan pass. Benites took another free position for her fourth goal of the day before Ryan scored unassisted. The final three goals came as Brockman scored unassisted, followed by Imbert from Brockman and Ryan from Mollitor.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Benites finished the day with four goals and two assists.
  • Brockman and Ryan were the next two highest scorers as each notched four points with three goals and one assist. Brockman added five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while Ryan added six draw controls on the day.
  • Hutson finished with two points on the offensive end, while corralling six ground balls and causing three turnovers on the defensive side.
  • Sophomore Molly Naylor picked up the victory in net, while making nine saves.
GAME NOTES
  • The Knights are now riding a three-game win streak.
  • The victory was the first of Naylor's career, while her nine saves is a career best.
  • Brockman tied career highs in points (4) and ground balls (5).
  • Kaye set career marks in assists (3) and points (3).
  • Senior Courtney Capehart had one caused turnover, tying her for 8th place (51) in program history.
