GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia softball team took game one, 6-4, and game two, 8-3, in a sweep of conference foe Alvernia Thursday. Sophomore
Hunter Schantz had a huge day with a pair of two-run home runs.
FOR THE RECORD:
- The Knights improved to 6-8 on the year and 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
- The Golden Wolves dropped to 12-3-1 and 0-2 in the conference.
GAME ONE: ARCADIA 6, ALVERNIA 4
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Arcadia broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the fourth inning; sophomore Tori Zangrilli singled to right field to bring in freshman Alexis Burge to start the scoring. Senior Nicole Iasiello scored in the next at-bat when junior Kayla Resh reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. Two batters later, junior Kristin Cancelliere singled in Zangrilli.
- Three more runs crossed the dish in the top of the fifth as Schantz hit a two-run home run before Zangrilli plated Iasiello with a sac fly.
- Alvernia scored three in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Eight different players registered a hit for Arcadia, led by Cancelliere with two.
- Schantz and Zangrilli each drove in two runs.
- Senior Amanda Hess recorded a double and Iasiello had a triple.
- The Knights totaled nine hits.
IN THE CIRCLE:
- Sophomore Kylee Schwind (3-2) tossed all seven innings for the Scarlet and Grey, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts.
- Riley Shields (8-1) took the loss for the Golden Wolves allowing six runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work. Zoee Garis allowed three hits over the final 2.2 innings.
GAME 2: ARCADIA 8, ALVERNIA 3
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Schantz opened the scoring with a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
- The Golden Wolves got one run back in the bottom of the first before Arcadia responded with five in the top of the second. Junior Jackie Bilotti sent a two-out single up the middle to plate freshman Alex DeStefano and sophomore Ashley Eckett. Following a walk from senior Amanda Hess to load the bases, Schantz, freshman Alexa Vardiman and Zangrilli all walked in a run.
- Hess singled in Eckett on a bunt in the top of the fifth for Arcadia's final run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Schantz went 2-2 in the game with a home run, three RBI, a run scored and two walks.
- Hess had a 2-4 outing. She along with Bilotti, Vardiman and Zangrilli all recorded an RBI.
- Burge and Eckett each scored twice.
IN THE CIRCLE:
- Sophomore Mary Pat Murray (3-4) tossed all seven innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits.
- Nicole August (3-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) on two hits with eight walks in 1.2 innings of work.
NOTES:
- Bilotti has a hit in each of the last eight games.
- Schantz has reached safely in 10-straight games, including a seven-game hit streak.
UP NEXT:
- The Knights return to action Thursday, April 5, when they travel to Stockton. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
