Softball Splits at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Arcadia softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Stockton Thursday, taking game one, 3-0, and falling in game two, 9-1.
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights are now 7-9 on the year.
  • The Ospreys own a 12-8 record.
GAME ONE: ARCADIA 3, STOCKTON 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Julia Gessner opened the scoring for the Scarlet and Grey when she crossed the plate as freshman Alex DeStefano reached on an error by the second baseman. DeStefano later scored on a single from junior Jackie Bilotti.
  • Gessner tacked on another run in the top of the sixth with a solo home run over the wall in left center.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore Kylee Schwind (4-2) picked up the win, striking out five in 5.2 innings of work. Freshman Brooke Ward earned her first career save in 1.1 innings of action.
  • Marissa Semeraro (3-4) took the loss for the Ospreys, allowing two unearned runs on two hits with two walks in two innings of work. Victoria Torp tossed the final five innings, allowing one run on four hits.
NOTES:
  • Gessner's home run was the first of her career.
GAME TWO: STOCKTON 9, ARCADIA 1 (6 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The hosts scored runs in five different innings.
  • Sophomore Tori Zangrilli plated classmate Hunter Schantz with a single to the shortstop in the top of the sixth for Arcadia's run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore Mary Pat Murray (3-5) took the loss, allowing six runs and striking out three in 3.1 innings of work. Ward threw the final 2.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned).
  • Hannah Bibeault (7-1) got the win for Stockton surrendering three hits in five innings.
NOTES:
  • Bilotti is on a 10-game hit streak.
UP NEXT:
  • The Knights are slated to hit the field again Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Hood. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
