GLENSIDE, Pa – The Arcadia softball team dropped a pair of conference contests to Widener Wednesday, falling in game one, 4-0, and game two, 6-5. Sophomore
Hunter Schantz was the highlight of the Knights' offense with her team-leading fourth home run of the season.
FOR THE RECORD:
- Arcadia owns a 9-11 record on the year and a 5-3 mark in MAC Commonwealth play.
- Widener moves to 10-10 on the season and 5-3 in conference action.
GAME 1: WIDENER 4, ARCADIA 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Widener scored its four runs between the second and third innings.
- Junior Jackie Bilotti broke up the Widener no-hitter when she slapped a double to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning.
IN THE CIRCLE :
- Sophomore Kylee Schwind (5-3) tossed a complete game, striking out three and walking two batters.
- Katie Rabuck (4-5) went the distance, allowing one hit while striking out four and walking two.
GAME 2: WIDENER 6, ARCADIA 5
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Arcadia tied the game at one in the bottom half of the second when sophomore Mary Pat Murray singled left center allowing Schantz to cross home plate.
- Widener took the lead again in the third inning, but Bilotti made that advantage short-lived. The North Wales, Pa. native sent a triple to right center to score junior Kristen Cancelliere and tie the game at two. The Knights jumped in front courtesy of a three-run home run from Schantz in the next at-bat.
- That lead stood until the seventh inning when Widener rallied to score four runs, including the go-ahead run on an RBI single.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Freshman Alex Destefano went two-of-four in game two
- Schantz batted 2-of-3 with three RBIs in the night cap.
- Bilotti and Murray each drove in a run in the game.
IN THE CIRCLE:
- Murray (4-6) struck out five and walked three in seven innings.
- Bella Bottini (3-3) got the win in relief, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings, striking out one and walking four. Rabuck struck out one in 2.1 innings.
NOTES:
- Bilotti extended her hit streak to 14 games, while moving into ninth all-time with 147 hits.
UP NEXT
- Arcadia heads to Williamsport, Pa. on Saturday to continue conference play against Lycoming. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
