Lloyd Tosses Gem, Cardace Launches Sixth Home Run of the Season as Baseball Splits with Messiah

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia baseball team split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader with Messiah Sunday, claiming game one, 6-0, before falling in game two, 4-2. Senior Nick Cardace led the offense with five hits on the day.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Scarlet and Grey own a 23-10 record on the year, and are 13-5 in conference play.
  • The Falcons sits at 11-18 overall and 7-11 in the MAC Commonwealth.
GAME ONE: ARCADIA 6, MESSIAH 0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman Josh Fulmer plated Cardace with a double to left field in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Sophomore Tyler Wisnewski laid down a sac bunt with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth to bring in junior Luke Hohenstein. One batter later, freshman Matt Ernst plated Fulmer and junior Nick Ponente with a single to center field.
  • Fulmer drove in another run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to center, before Hohenstein sent a single through the left side in the sixth for the final run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Cardace went 3-for-4 in the game with a double.
  • Hohenstein registered two base hits, while Fulmer, Ponente, Ernst, junior Bryan Gillen and sophomore Phil Pierfy each had one.
  • Fulmer and Ernst drove in two runs.
ON THE HILL:
  • Senior Jake Lloyd (1-1) tossed a complete game gem, allowing three hits and striking out six.
  • Ethan Hess (0-4) allowed six runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings for Messiah.
GAME TWO: MESSIAH 4, ARCADIA 2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arcadia got on the board early, as Pierfy plated Gillen with a double to center field in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Cardace sent his sixth home run of the year over the left field fence in the top of the fifth.
  • Messiah plated its four runs in the top of the sixth inning
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Cardace and Pierfy each went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the game. Cardace had a home run, while Pierfy recorded a double.
ON THE HILL:
  • Senior Mike Boulanger (4-1) allowed two unearned runs on no hits with a strikeout in one inning of relief. Sophomore Rob Lichtenberger got the start, allowing two unearned runs in five innings. Hohenstein pitched a scoreless seventh.
  • Trent Culver (1-0) allowed one run on three hits in three innings of relief. Zach Luman got the start, allowing one run in three innings.
NOTES:
  • Cardace leads the team in home runs (6) and multi-hit games (18).
  • Gillen has reached safely in all 33 games this season.
  • Hohenstein has reached in 18 consecutive games, while Cardace and Ernst have reached in 10 straight outings.
UP NEXT:
  • The Knights travel to No. 10/12 TCNJ Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
