Baseball Falls to #9 TCNJ in Non-Conference Play

EWING, N.J. – The Arcadia baseball team's comeback effort fell short in an 11-6 loss to #9 TCNJ on Tuesday. Senior Nick Cardace and junior Luke Hohenstein led the offense with three hits apiece.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia is now 23-11 on the year.
  • TCNJ owns a 24-6 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the Lions offense erupted in the first inning by scoring nine runs, Arcadia responded in the third. Junior Bryan Gillen singled through the right side, bringing in freshman Matt Ernst. The scoring continued as junior Sean Carew plated freshman Josh Fulmer. Cardace drove in Gillen with a single to center field and Hohenstein plated Cardace and Carew with a single up the middle.
  • TCNJ added another run in the fifth. The Knights comeback bid fell short, as they were only able to score one more run on the afternoon as Hohenstein singled to left field, scoring Carew in the top of the seventh inning.
  • The Lions capped off the scoring with one more run in the bottom of the seventh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Cardace went 3-for-5, including a double and an RBI.
  • Hohenstein had a 3-for-5 day with three RBIs and a stolen base.
  • Carew was 2-for-4, scoring twice and recording an RBI.
  • Gillen had a 2-for-5 outing, recording an RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
  • Ernst, Fulmer, and junior Phil Pierfy all registered a hit each.
ON THE HILL:
  • Pierfy (1-1) took the loss for the Knights, allowing nine unearned runs off of six hits and hitting two batters in 0.2 innings of work.
  • Sophomore Mitch Blake threw 3.1 innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
  • Sophomore Andrew Scholz tossed two innings, giving up one earned run on three hits. He struck out one and walked one.
  • Senior Ryan Ulrich threw one inning and allowed one run off of one hit. Ulrich struck out one and walked one.
  • Senior Connor Laigaie tossed an inning, allowing no runs on no hits and walking one.
UP NEXT:
  • The Knights are back in action on Friday as they host Stevenson for a MAC Commonwealth contest. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
