Iasiello Drives in Four Runs as Softball Sweeps Franklin & Marshall to Extend Win Streak to 11

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior Nicole Iasiello drove in four runs over the two game series against Franklin and Marshall Thursday afternoon, as Arcadia softball took the sweep, 6-4 and 3-0. The Knights have now won 11 games in a row.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia improves to 20-12 on the year.
  • Franklin and Marshall drops to 17-19 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After the visiting Diplomats platted three runs in the top of the first, the Knights scored four unanswered runs to take the lead.
  • In the bottom of the first, freshman Alexis Burge singled to left, driving in junior Jackie Bilotti.
  • The following inning, freshman Alex DeStefano drilled a double to center, bringing in senior Amanda Hess for the RBI.
  • In the third, Iasiello nailed the ball to center for a two-run double, as she brought Burge and sophomore Ashton Evans.
  • After Franklin and Marshall tied the game in the top of the fourth at four, the Scarlet and Grey scored one in the bottom half to recapture the lead, while adding one for insurance in the sixth.
  • The fourth inning saw sophomore Hunter Schantz singled to center, allowing DeStefano to score.
  • In the sixth, Iasiello singled to left, plating senior Kaylee Zarick.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Iasiello ended the game with two hits, driving in three RBIs.
  • DeStefano, Burge and Zangrilli each knocked three hits in game one, with Burge and DeStefano scoring a run and driving in an RBI each.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore pitcher Mary Pat Murray (8-6) went 6.1 innings, fanning three, and giving up five hits and one unearned run.
  • Junior Kayla Resh started the game, pitching 0.2 innings, striking out one and allowing five hits and three earned runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first four innings were a pitcher's duel, before the Knights were able to plate three runs in the bottom half of the fifth.
  • Hess started off the RBIs as she singled up the middle, platting freshman Alexa Vardiman after she reached on a bunt. Zangrilli came in to take a pinch-hit double to left center, bringing Hess in. Iasiello finished the scoring efforts with a triple to right field, allowing DeStefano to score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Iasiello and Vardiman both went 2-for-3.
  • Hess, Iasiello and Zangrilli each knocked in a run.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Sophomore Kylee Schwind pitched a complete game shutout, fanning two while allowing five hits and a walk.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia returns to the field on Saturday as it hosts Albright for Senior Day. With a sweep, the Knights will clinch the No. 1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championships. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
