Baseball Set as Number Two Seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championships After Split with Stevenson

STEVENSON, Md. – Arcadia baseball split a pair of games against Stevenson Saturday afternoon (5-3, 2-3). The Knights are now set as the number two seed in the MAC Commonwealth Championships.

FOR THE RECORD
  • Arcadia moved to 25-12 and 15-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.
  • Stevenson adjusted its record to 18-20 and 8-13 in conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Bryan Gillen scored on a throwing error after senior Nick Cardace advanced him on the sacrifice.
  • In the second inning, Gillen added a two-run single to right, scoring freshman Matt Ernst and junior Nick Ponente.
  • Cardace scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman Josh Fulmer in the fifth inning, pushing the lead to 4-3.
  • Junior Anthony Zupito followed in the same inning with an RBI single, driving in junior Phil Pierfy to secure the 5-3 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Pierfy went 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring one run.
  • Gillen collected two RBIs and touched the dish once.
  • Cardace drove in a run and scored once.
  • Ernst was perfect in two plate appearances, scoring one run.
ON THE MOUND:
  • Senior Mike Boulanger (5-1) picked up the win in 4.1 innings of work with three strikeouts. He walked one and limited the Mustangs to just two hits.
  • Senior Jake Lloyd finished 2.2 innings of work with one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Pierfy sent a two-run single through the left side, plating Gillen and junior Luke Hohenstein. The Knights held a 2-0 lead after one.
  • Stevenson tied the game in the fifth, later walking off in the seventh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Hohenstein went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Pierfy went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Ernst was 1-for-2 with a walk.
  • Gillen drew two walks and scored a run.
ON THE MOUND
  • Sophomore Jeremy Sabathne (3-1) went 2.1 innings, while striking out three and walking one.
  • Sophomore Robert Lichtenberger came on in relief, striking out four and walking three in four innings of work.
