Another Sweep for Softball as it Takes Down Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Make it 15 wins in a row for Arcadia softball as it sweeps Delaware Valley Tuesday afternoon. Both sophomore pitchers Mary Pat Murray and Kylee Schwind pitched a gem as Murray picked up a 2-1 win and Schwind won, 10-0.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia advances to 24-12 on the year.
  • Delaware Valley dips to 14-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Jackie Bilotti had a sacrifice bunt in the third, plating senior Amanda Hess to put the Knights up, 1-0.
  • After the home team tied the game in the bottom of the third, Hess rocked a single to right field, scoring classmate Nicole Iasiello in the top of the seventh to claim the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Hess finished 2-for-3 on the game, scoring a run and driving in an RBI.
  • Iasiello went 1-for-3 scoring the other run of the game.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Murray (10-6) pitched a complete game, striking out seven and giving up one unearned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Hunter Schantz started things off in the top of the first, blasting a shot to left center, putting the Scarlet and Grey up, 1-0.
  • Two innings later, Schantz took another pitch deep, this time to center for a grand slam.
  • Arcadia finished its scoring efforts in the fifth. Sophomore Hayley Friess had a pinch hit double to right, scoring freshman Alexa Vardiman. Two batters later, freshman Brooke Ward hit an RBI double to left center as Friess touched home. Junior Kayla Resh completed the offensive outburst, singling to left field, bringing Ward in from second.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Schantz was 3-for-3 on the game, with six RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Ward had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in one.
  • Vardiman also joined the 3-for-3 club, adding a run scored.
INSIDE THE CIRCLE:
  • Schwind pitched the five-inning shutout, striking out four.
GAME NOTES:
  • The Knights 15 game win streak ties for the most consecutive wins since 2007. The program record is 18 in a row, set back in 2005.
  • Schantz had career highs in hits, RBIs, and total bases. Her grand slam was also the first of her career.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia heads to the MAC Commonwealth Championships on Friday, where it will play the winner of No. 5 Alvernia versus No. 4 Hood. First pitch for the Knights game is set for 2 p.m.
