Bartoni Tosses Complete Game as No. 3 Baseball Powers Past No. 7 Catholic, 13-2

YORK, Pa. – Junior Joel Bartoni pitched a complete game gem for No. 3 Arcadia baseball as it took down No. 7 Catholic, Friday afternoon, 13-2. The win eliminates the Cardinals from the NCAA Regional, advancing the Knights to their third game.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moves to 31-15 on the season.
  • Catholic ends the season with a 31-15 overall record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights scored 10 runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run blast off the bat of junior Bryan Gillen. Junior Phil Pierfy and sophomore Tyler Wisnewski also picked up two RBIs apiece in the inning.
  • Arcadia added a run in the top of the seventh as Gillen doubled to left center, scoring junior Nick Ponente from second.
  • Catholic attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs to cut the deficit, 11-2.
  • The Knights took those two runs back in the top of the eighth on a two-run suicide squeeze by senior Drew Coisson. Pierfy and senior Nick Cardace came in to score, putting Arcadia up, 13-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Gillen finished the day 2-for-5 with the long ball, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Both Wisnewski and Pierfy went 2-for-4, picking up two RBIs and two runs scored each.
  • Coisson was 1-for-2 with the suicide squeeze, driving in two runs.
  • Freshman Matt Ernst went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Cardace and juniors Luke Hohenstein, Sean Carew each drove in a run.
ON THE MOUND:
  • Bartoni tossed nine innings, allowing just two runs over six hits, while striking out four.
GAME NOTES:
  • The Scarlet and Grey move to 7-1 all-time at PEOPLEsBank Park.
  • The Knights have now won an NCAA Regional game in back-to-back years for the first time in program history.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia will take on the loser of No. 1 Rowan and No. 5 Misericordia, Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at PEOPLEsBank Park in York, Pa.
