Stockton Edges Arcadia 2-1 in Field Hockey

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia field hockey team opened play in 2018 with a 2-1 loss to Stockton on a rainy Friday evening at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavillion.

The Knights (0-1) trailed 2-0 at the half, but a solid 20-minute stretch in the second half netted them a number of scoring chances, including Lauren Dougherty's goal off a feed from Emily Covert early in the second period that halved AU's deficit and made the score 2-1.

Arcadia had a chance to tie the game late, getting a penalty corner with under 20 seconds to play. The Ospreys thwarted the initial attempt from the Knights, but were unable to clear and Arcadia had another chance after time expired. The ensuing corner resulted in a foul on the Knights and ended the contest.

Stockton (1-0) scored twice in the game's opening 10 minutes, getting goals from Victoria Caiazzo and Jennell Long.

IN GOAL: Arcadia's Allison Nikolaus earned the start in her first collegiate game, making one save as the Osprey's put just three shots on frame. For Stockton, Emily Gilligan allowed just the one goal and was not forced to make a save.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Osprey's outshot AU 7-6 overall, but all six of Arcadia's shots came in the second half as the Knights ramped up their pressure after the break … each team had five penalty corners, with Stockton getting all five of its in the first half, and the Knights getting all five of theirs in the second half.

UP NEXT: The Knights are back in action on Sunday at Swarthmore beginning at 4 p.m.
