Women's Soccer Topples Haverford 2-1

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -- A pair of first-half goals lifted the Arcadia women's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Haverford on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (1-0) posted their third straight win over the Fords (0-1) dating back to 2016 and won their season opener for the fourth straight season.

In the 16th minute, Sarah Walsh played a long ball over the Haverford defense that found the feet of Veronica Garcia who beat Julie Hanss and put the Knights up 1-0. With under 10 minutes to play in the first period, a foul in the box gave Arcadia a penalty kick, and Bridget Sway made good to give the Knights a 2-0 lead at the 38:58 mark.

The Knights maintained their two-goal advantage until the 78th minute when Kendra Griesman scored the lone goal for the Fords.

IN GOAL: Brianna Williams started and played all 90 minutes for the Knights, making four saves for her first win of the season. Hanss played the entirety in net for the Fords and also made four saves.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Haverford actually held a 13-12 edge in total shots, but Arcadia boasted a 6-5 edge in shots on goal … the Knights were also the far more physical team, racking up 23 fouls to just 11 for Haverford … of the Knights' 12 shots, four came from Garcia, while Emily Readinger took two shots and put them both on frame.

UP NEXT: The Knights will play the winner of St. John Fisher vs. Montclair State in the title game of the Haverford Kickoff Classic on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
