HAVERFORD, Pa. -- Arcadia's women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Montclair State in the championship game of the Haverford Kick Off Classic on Sunday afternoon.
 
At the conclusion of both overtime periods, the teams went to penalty kicks -- a practice reserved for the postseason -- in order to determine a winner, and the Red Hawks earned the trophy with a 2-1 advantage in PKs.
 
It was the Knights (1-0-1) who struck first, as Mia Bertolami picked up her first goal of the season just over 10 minutes into the contest. Bertolami collected a loose ball at the top of the 18 and beat Lindsay Freewalt for a 1-0 lead.
 
Despite getting outshot 9-2 in the first period, the Knights maintained their one-goal advantage into the break.
 
In the second half, the Red Hawks scored the equalizer on Emily Beenders' goal at the 48:06 mark.
 
IN GOAL: Brianna Williams was huge in goal for the Knights, turning away eight shots on the day. She got some help from her back line as well as AU defenders cleared two balls off the line in quick succession in the first half. Freewalt came up with two saves in contest.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights were outshot 17-5 on the game, including 11-3 in shots on goal, yet managed to hold a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks … Bertolami had two of AU's five shots and both were on target … For Montclair State, Beenders launched six shots, four on goal, to lead all players … Williams' eight saves marked the third most in a single game that the sophomore has posted in brief career.
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will make their home debut on Thursday when they host Ursinus at 7 p.m. at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.
