Knights and Colonels Play to 2-2 Draw

GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Wilkes on Saturday afternoon at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavillion.

Arcadia stands at 5-1-2 on the season while the Colonels moved to 2-3-1.

The Knights appeared to have the contest well in hand after carrying a 2-0 lead into the 77th minute. Veronica Garcia gave Arcadia an early lead, settling a loose ball and beating Wilkes' Samantha Cecere from 23 yards out. Just over four minutes later, Victoria Casey sent a ball into the box that went through Cecere's hands on a big hop and across the goal line for an early 2-0 lead.

Arcadia continued to apply pressure in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Colonels 16-1 in the period, and earning eight corners to just one for the visitors.

Shots were 9-5 in favor of Wilkes in the second half and in the waning moments of the game, the Colonels found the back of the net. Megan Lercara scored on a PK after an unlucky hand ball in the box at the 76:04 mark, and a scrum in front of the net after a corner kick resulted in Emily Bidelspach nudging a ball over the goal line to tie the contest with just over three minutes to play.

IN GOAL: Brianna Williams made four saves for the Knights in picking up the win. Cecere made 13 saves for the Colonels in playing the entire game, and had a pair of balls cleared off the line by her back line in the first half.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The 27 shots that the Knights ended the day with were far away the most that that AU has posted in a single game this season, same goes for the 17 shots on goal … Each team earned nine corners, the second-most that AU has taken this season, and the most that the Knights have conceded.

UP NEXT: The Knights play the final of three straight home games on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they entertain Swarthmore.
