GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia women's basketball team dropped Rutgers-Camden 84-71 on Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Knights improve to 6-7 on the season, while Rutgers-Camden falls to 6-5.
Julia Makowski led the Knights (6-7) with 16 points and 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, while
Sydney Cyr added a season-high 15 points and seven boards, and
Taylor Dunn scored 13 points with five rebounds, and
Camille Menns chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
Leading by four (8-4) with 7:02 to play in the first quarter, Arcadia used a 9-2 run to take a 11-point lead (17-6), which was capped by two free throws from Cyr, to extend the Knights' lead with 3:38 remaining in the period. Arcadia took a nine-point lead (24-15) into the second quarter.
The Knights' lead stretched to 12 (29-17) in the second quarter after
Courtney Hoffman converted a layup with 7:58 remaining. The Scarlet Raptors answered by closing the gap to seven after a three pointer from Gabby Greene with 6:42 left in the half, making the score 29-22. The Knights responded, closing the half by outscoring Rutgers-Camden 16-7, a run which began with a
Taylor Fritz layup and ended with a layup from Dunn with 27 seconds remaining, giving the Knights a 12-point cushion (41-29) at the break.
Arcadia extended its lead to 14 in the beginning of the third quarter, after Menns converted a layup with 8:11 to play, making the score 48-34. The Knights would not let Rutgers-Camden get any closer to their lead than 11 in the frame, and took a 14-point lead (42-48) into the fourth quarter.
Rutgers-Camden cut the Knights' lead to just seven in the fourth quarter, Wykira Johnson-Kelly hit a layup to make the score 64-57 with 7:44 left in regulation. Still leading by seven (68-61) with 5:45 on the clock, the Knights began to pull away. Cyr hit a triple with 2:46 left to stretch the Knights' lead to 14 (77-63). Arcadia cruised from there, leading by as many as many as 18 points, to secure the victory.
Arcadia never trailed in the game and was only tied for 19 seconds. The Knights shot .455 (30-66) from the field in the win, and pulled down a season-high 58 rebounds in the win. The Knights set season high marks in both offensive and defensive rebounds as well.
Arcadia will be back in action on Saturday when the Knights travel to Albright for a 1 p.m. tip.
