Lions Edge Knights in OT, 60-56

READING, Pa. -- Julia Makowski posted her second straight double-double, but the Arcadia women's basketball team to Albright 60-56 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Makowski led all scorers with 20 points and added 10 boards for her second double-double in as many games. Sydney Cry chipped in 14 points to go with five rebounds and two steals. The overtime game also marked the Knights third overtime contest in their last four outings.

Arcadia (6-8) overcame an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lions 22-16 over the final 10 minutes to tie the contest at 53-53 and force the extra frame. Down 41-33 with 8:24 remaining, the Knights used a 7-1 run to cut their deficit to 42-40 on a trey from Cyr with 6:22 left.

The Lions managed to push their lead back up to six points (50-44) with 3:11 left before the Knights closed regulation on a 9-3 run. Back-to-back layups from Makowski kickstarted the run for AU, and Cyr pulled the Scarlet & Grey within 51-50 when she knocked down a pair of free throws with 55 seconds left.

Two free throws by Albright's Dejah Terell gave the hosts a 53-50 lead with six seconds to play, but Makowski fed Cyr for a game-tying triple with one second remaining that forced overtime.

Taylor Dunn opened the extra session with a layup to give AU a 55-53 lead, but outside of a free throw from Makowski, proved to be the only offense the Knights could muster in overtime as the Lions pulled out the win.

Arcadia had taken a 24-20 lead into halftime, but the Lions used a 17-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter to seize momentum and take the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Terrell led the Lions with 11 points, though five other Albright players registered at least eight points, including nine points, eight rebounds and four assists from Lauren Killion.

Arcadia is back in action on Wednesday when it plays host to Lebanon Valley at 8 p.m.
