Women's Volleyball Falls to Stevenson in Five-Set Thriller

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team appeared poised to take down an unbeaten Stevenson (16-0, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) squad Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium after claiming the first two sets of the match, 25-18 and 25-15, but the Mustangs rallied back to take the final three sets and the match, 3-2. Maddie Sehrt posted a season-high 23 kills in the effort to lead the Knights - followed in closely by Shannon Ryan's 20 - while Julia Paliwodzinski logged 47 assists on the night, marking her second-highest total of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Knights came out energized Tuesday night to take an early 10-7 lead in the opening set before ripping off six unanswered points to take total control at 19-10 thanks to three Ryan kills. The Mustangs battled back to get within three late, but Lauren Enfield sealed the first set win with a kill.

-Arcadia raced out to an early advantage again in the second set, earning 12 of the first 16 points before taking a set-high, 12-point lead at 19-7. Sehrt, Ryan and Allison Elechko all produced kills down the stretch to cap off the pivotal second set victory.

-Stevenson rallied to take a quick four-point lead in the third, but the Knights answered back to draw even at 21 with a late 3-0 run powered by a pair of Sehrt kills. However, the Mustangs got on the board by taking four of the final five points of the set to take it, 25-22.

-The Knights fell behind again in the fourth early on, but rallied to tie - and take the lead at 10-9 - with three unanswered points. After the Mustangs drew back even at ten-all, the Knights answered with a 4-0 run on kills from Sehrt and Ryan before finding themselves looking at match point at 24-22. Stevenson stayed alive to even the set at 24 and Arcadia took the next point to hold match-point serve, but the Mustangs responded to take the final three points of the set to send the match to a decisive fifth.

-Despite falling behind by three in the fifth, Arcadia refused to bow down and put together a 4-0 run to take its first lead of the set, 10-9. The two sides traded points and wound up deadlocked at 13-all, but a pair of Knight attack errors handed the match to the Mustangs with a 15-13 victory in the fifth.
