Arcadia Tops Eastern in Four Sets, Paliwodzinski Dominates on Both Sides

GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's volleyball team wrapped up a challenging homestand with a hard-fought win, 3-1, over Eastern University on Thursday night. 

Shannon Ryan led the Knights with a strong offensive performance, tallying a team-best 17 kills with a .295 hitting percentage. Maddie Sehrt and Julia Paliwodzinski dominated on the defensive side with 13 and 10 blocks, respectively. Paliwodzinski also led the Knights with 41 assists, 18 digs and three service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights edged out a 26-24 victory in a tight opening set. Eastern controlled momentum early with the game's first four points, but the Knights answered back later in the set with a 6-2 run to tie the game, 10-10. The Knights and Eagles traded points the rest of the way with the biggest lead reaching two points. With the game knotted at 24-24, Arcadia was able to put the Eagles away with the final two points. 

- Eastern evened up play with a 25-23 victory in the second set. The Eagles gained separation midway through the stanza with four straight points to take a 20-17 lead. The Knights battled back to tie the game at 23-23, but Eastern claimed victory with two consecutive points. 

- Arcadia dominated the third set with a 25-13 victory. The Knights jumped ahead early with an 11-1 rally, which gave the squad a 15-4 advantage. Arcadia never looked back and put together an impressive defensive effort to end the set. 

- The Knights claimed victory with a 25-20 win in the fourth set. Midway through the fourth stanza, Eastern positioned themselves to earn a fifth set with a 4-0 run to take a 17-13 lead. However, the Knights ended the match with seven straight points to avoid a fifth set.
