Field Hockey Drops Competitive Battle against No. 7 Rowan

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team held an early lead, but surrendered two second half goals to fall to No. 7 Rowan University, 3-1, Thursday night.

The Knights were able to strike first with an opening tally from Lauren Dougherty for her second goal of the season. However, Rowan answered with three unanswered goals, including two second half scores, to seal the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first half, Sydney Cyr prevented an early scoring opportunity with an excellent defensive stop to neutralize a Rowan fast break. The senior hustled back on defense to wrestle the ball away from a Rowan attacker, who had a one-on-one look at the goal.

- Dougherty opened the scoring with a tally in the 14th minute. The Knights created heavy traffic in front of the cage, which allowed Dougherty to score off the ensuing scrum, beating the Profs' keeper high.

- Bridget Guinan tied the game up with a goal in the 19th minute. Guinan positioned herself by the far post and connected on a one-timer from Kristiina Castagnola.

- Guinan and Castagnola added third quarter goals to give the Profs a 3-1 lead. Guinan netted the game-winner on a fast break, while Castagnola provided an insurance tally off a penalty stroke.

-Ashton Evans and Gracie Fenner both saw action in goal with Evans receiving the bulk of the minutes. Fenner made one of the biggest stops of the night with a kick save on a one-timer from in front of the cage.
