Knights Fall Short After Hard-Fought Second Half

GLENSIDE, PA - The Arcadia University men's soccer team fell to Scranton University, 1-0, Wednesday night. After a slow opening half, the Knights battled for the final 45-minutes of play, but were unable to come away with the equalizer. 

Matt Berndlmaier had the Knights best scoring chance with a free kick in the 89th minute, but connected with the crossbar. Alexander Kuchnicki and Duncan O'Connor also put together quality scoring chances, but were turned away with diving stops.  

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Royals tallied the game's lone goal in the 26th minute. Riley Smith led Bryce Schiltz to the right side with a through ball, which created an open look for the sophomore midfielder. Schiltz took advantage of the opportunity and beat Jake Varrato to the far post. 

- Arcadia was outshot 8-0 in the opening half, but controlled the final 45 minutes with a 10-3 shots advantage. The Knights made halftime adjustments and threatened with several quality scoring chances.

- Matt Berndlmaier was responsible for the team's best scoring chance in the 89th minute. After the Knights earned a free kick from just outside the center of the box, Berndlmaier attempted to play the ball high to the right post. The junior captain elevated his shot past the leaping keeper, but deflected the shot off the middle of the crossbar.

TEAM COMPARISON
- The Royals held a slim 11-10 shots advantage. Scranton held the Knights without a shot in the opening half, but Arcadia rebounded with a 10-3 shots advantage in the final half.

- Scranton attempted four corner kicks, while Arcadia only had two.
