Bower Buries Game-Winner in Final Seconds, Knights Climb in Conference Standings

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Keegan Bower netted the game-winning tally with two seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Knights, 1-0, over Widener University in an important conference victory, Tuesday night. Bower's heroics elevated the Knights to second place in the MAC Commonwealth with a 3-1-2 record.

After a successful and hard-fought defensive stand at the other end, the Knights took advantage of their final attack of the evening with a last second score. Matt Berndlmaier setup the opportunity with a boot from midfield, which found the foot of Bower to end the game.

Jake Varrato had another sensational performance for his conference-leading seventh shutout of the season. The three-time MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week made five saves, including several high-leverage stops.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - Varrato made back-to-back saves to stop a Widener breakaway opportunity in the first half. The sophomore ventured outside the goal and made two stops at the top of the box. Varrato knocked away the first shot with a slide and recovered quickly to make a diving save on the second attempt.

- Bryan Reyes played a stellar opening half on both sides of the ball. The senior defender created two of the Knights' best scoring chances of the half. Reyes showed off his footwork with an excellent move to beat his defender and set up his teammate on the run. He then played a free kick from 35-yards out, which was deflected away by the leaping goalkeeper.

- The Knights created a quality scoring opportunity early in the second half. Brandon Pryor set up Duncan O'Connor on the opposite side, but the junior's deflection was blocked by a Pride defender.

- Later in the second half, Arcadia earned two free kicks from just outside of the box. Reyes fired the first kick at the keeper, while Pryor missed wide on his attempt.

- Varrato made a leaping save in the 87th minute to keep the Pride off the board when he punched a dangerous free kick over the crossbar. The Knights defense then successfully fought off consecutive corner kicks.

- Bower came through with the game-winning tally with two seconds remaining on the clock. Berndlmaier booted a midfield strike into the crowded box, which bounced off a couple bodies and found the foot of Bower for the game-winner. It was Bower's second game-winner of the season with first occurring in the 87th minute at Misericordia University on Sept. 7.
