FREDERICK, Md. – Matthew Zamorski tallied his first-career goal and
Duncan O'Connor scored twice as the Arcadia University men's soccer defeated Hood College, 3-1, Saturday afternoon. With today's victory, the Knights clinched their first MAC Commonwealth postseason berth since 2017.
A former two-year manager, Zamorski scored his first career goal to spark three straight tallies for Arcadia. The senior's tally was shortly followed by O'Connor's game-winning goal, which put the Knights ahead 2-1 in the 75th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Varrato kept the game scoreless with a sliding save in the 56th minute. Aaron Hernandez, who had an open look at the net, tried to beat the sophomore keeper low, but was turned away with a sliding kick save.
- Cristian Urbina netted the game's first goal in the 67th minute on a penalty kick. The Blazer played the ball low to the left side to beat Varrato.
- Later in the 67th minute, the Knights answered with the equalizer from Matt Zamorski for his first tally of the season. Hood attempted to neutralize Arcadia's attack by heading the Knights entering pass outside of the box. However, the Blazers clear attempt was sent back into the box on a header from
Matt Berndlmaier, which was deflected by
Zac Runkle to find an open Zamorski.
- Arcadia took the lead in the 75th minute with an O'Connor header.
Brandon Pryor set up the goal with a beautiful cross from the far corner.
- O'Connor added on an insurance goal with a penalty kick in the 87th minute. The junior beat the keeper low to the left side for his second goal of the afternoon.
