MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Brianna Williams and the Knights defense led the No. 14 Arcadia University women's soccer team to a 0-0 double-overtime draw at No. 1 Messiah College, Wednesday afternoon.
After receiving a red card early in the second half, the Knights played a man down for 62 minutes and overcame a 40-6 shot disadvantage to earn a draw against the nation's top team. Williams led the charge with her best performance of the season, collecting 18 saves to keep the Falcons off the board.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the fourth minute,
Bridget Sway earned a penalty kick after a takedown in the box, but was denied on a sliding stop by the Falcons' goalkeeper.
- Williams made one of many incredible leaping stops in the 25
th minute to keep the game scoreless. The Falcons chipped a shot high from inside the box, but were turned away as Williams deflected the ball off the crossbar.
- Messiah had an excellent scoring chance in the 50
th minute, but were denied by a heads-up defense stop. The Falcons created traffic in front of net and played the ball into empty space. However,
Victoria Casey and
Brianna Crowley collapsed on the loose ball and neutralized the scoring threat.
- The Knights had to compete a player short after earning a red card in the 48
th minute. Williams and the Knights defense battled through adversity with a 20-0 shot disadvantage in the second half. The Falcons kept possession for the majority of the half, but couldn't beat the Knights' resilient defense.

Kayla Murphy nearly netted the game-winner in the final seconds of the first overtime. After the Knights earned a free kick from 30-yards out, Murphy struck the right side of the crossbar as time expired.
- Williams made her biggest save of the night in the 104th minute. Following a cross from the right side, Kayla Herr placed a header to the opposite side of the goal, but was rejected on a highlight-reel save from the junior keeper. Williams timed the header perfectly and made a leaping stop to secure the draw.
- Williams recorded her conference-best seventh shutout of the season, while lowering her goals against average to .024. The junior also holds an impressive .943 saves percentage.
