Women's Soccer Battles to Draw in Senior Night Finale, Clinch Second Seed

GLENSIDE, Pa. -  The Arcadia University women's soccer team battled to a double-overtime draw against Stevenson University, 1-1, Saturday night on Jean Lenox West Field. Both teams will meet again when the second-seeded Knights host the Mustangs on Thursday in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament.

The women's soccer team honored Amanda McHugh, Veronica Garcia, Karlie Flowers, Claire Weisner and Bridget Sway prior to the opening touch for Senior Appreciation Night. A senior midfielder, Flowers celebrated the occasion with a go-ahead goal in the 87th minute. However, the Mustangs soon answered with an equalizer to send the game to overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights put together several quality scoring opportunities in the opening half, but couldn't come away with a score. Keegan Caffrey made several key stops for the Mustangs, including leaping saves against Flowers and Megan Mannato in the 19th and 39th minutes, respectively.

- Later in the opening half, Stevenson's keeper made a diving stop to rob Mannato once again in the 44th minute. The Knights outshot their opponent 14-2 in the first stanza, while Caffery collected seven saves for the Mustangs.

- Brianna Williams was tested early in the opening half when she charged at a 50/50 ball in the box. The junior keeper was able to absorb contact and deflect Marissa Inglisa's shot out of play. The Knights defense then fought off consecutive corner attempts to keep the game scoreless.

- Mannato and Erin Vander Plaat both had two of the Knights best scoring chances in the 79th minute. Mannato deflected the first shot off the post, while Vander Plaat's second chance attempt was stopped by a diving save on the opposite side of the net.

- The Knights finally broke through in the 87th minute with a Flowers goal. Kayla Murphy sent a free kick into the box, which was bobbled by the keeper and scooped up by Flowers for the go-ahead score. However, the Mustangs would answer back moments later with a goal from Kierra McGee on a second-chance tip.

- Jules Oswald showed off her speed and athleticism with a key defensive stop in the first overtime. The junior back avoided a Stevenson breakaway when she caught up to a free attacker in a foot race and forced her to pull the ball to the outside.

- Caffrey stopped Flowers once again with a leaping stop on a free kick in the 108th minute. Moments later, Hoffman nearly ended the game with a header, but hit the post.
