GALLOWAY, N.J. --
Veandra Selby made 23 saves, but the Arcadia women's lacrosse team fell at Stockton 16-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Selby's 23 saves marked a career high, but the Knights still slipped to 0-2 on the season while the Ospreys moved to 1-0.
Â
Giovanna Raspanti gave the Knights an early 1-0 lead off a feed from
Jess Kaye just under five minutes into the contest, and following three straight goals from the Ospreys gave Stockton a 3-1 lead, she cut the deficit to 3-2 at the 12:57 mark off an assist from
Nicole Kress.
Â
Stockton responded with four goals to close the first half and two more to open the second in taking a 9-2 lead with 27:24 left to play. Kress and
Hannah McAllister answered back-to-back goals for AU that trimmed the Knights' deficit to 9-5, but a 7-1 run to close the game snuffed out any comeback hopes.
Â
Selby made 14 saves in the first half and nine in the second as Arcadia was outshot 53-25, including 39-15 in shots on goal. Stockton held a 15-7 edge in draw controls and a 28-14 lead in ground balls.
Â
Kress (1g/1a), Raspanti (2g) and
Julia Imbert (2g) led the Knights with two points apiece. Kress also added a pair of draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Â
Jennifer Toal (4g/1a) led the Ospreys with five points, and three ground balls. Michelle Pascrell scored four times, and Melanie Patterson won seven draw controls.
Â
Arcadia will play host to Swarthmore on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m.
