Colletti Earns 100th Career Win

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Arcadia softball team opened with a 5-3 loss to Kean, before bouncing back with a thrilling 3-1 win over William Patterson, earning head coach Sarah Colletti her 100th career coaching victory on Tuesday, and putting the Knights with a 3-3 record on the 2019 campaign.

The fifth-year head coach now holds an overall record of 100-71 (.581). A two-time MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year, she now joins two other coaches in program history with 100 or more wins (Wayne Morra, 1982-93 and Linda Detra 1994-14).

Kean 5, Arcadia 3
Mary Pat Murray clubbed a three-run home run and added 3.2 innings of scoreless relief in the circle as the Knights fell to Kean. The Cougars scored all five of their runs in a pivotal third inning.

Tied 0-0, Kean got a leadoff single in the third from Maria Bonfanti, who then stole second. An Olivia Zengel single with one out put two runners on and Julie Raba drove in the first run with a single to right center. A hit batter loaded the bases and Sarah Zengel walked to drive in a run and make it 2-0. Kean went up 4-0 on a one-out single that scored two more, and back-to-back walks reloaded the bases and drove in the Cougars' fifth run, while also chasing AU starter Kylee Schwind.

Murray came in to pitch and induced a ground ball double play to end the threat.

In the fifth, Hunter Schantz reached on an error and was replaced on the bases by Isabella O'Hare. Alexis Burge followed with a walk, and two batters later, Murray cut the Scarlet & Grey's deficit to 5-3 with a blast to straightaway center field. The Knights, however, were unable to pull any closer as a groundout and a popup ended the inning.

The Knights got their leadoff batter aboard in the sixth, a single by Alex DeStefano, but three straight flyouts to right ended the rally. In the seventh, Murray walked with two outs to bring the tying run to the plate, but a fly ball to left ended the game.

Schwind (1-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Murray gave up three hits and struck out three in 3.2 of scoreless work. Kean's Taryn DiGiacomo (6-1) yielded three runs (2 ER) on two hits and two walks with a strikeout in 7.0 innings.

Arcadia 3, William Paterson 1
The Knights took advantage of five Pioneer miscues as Jackie Bilotti led the team with two hits and two stolen bases.

AU's offense didn't get started until the bottom of the fourth when Bilotti singled to lead off the frame. After Burge reached on a fielder's choice, and Alexa Vardiman got to first on an infield error, Murray singled to drive in Burge for the game's first run.

In the fifth frame, the Scarlet & Grey benefited from two Pioneer errors on the same play as DeStefano, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored all the way from first on two throwing errors. A Bilotti single allowed Kristin Cancelliere to race home from second base, pushing the Knights' lead to 3-0.

William Paterson scraped across a run in the sixth as Caitlyn Massaro drove a ball back up the middle and Vanessa Archibold, who singled to lead off the inning, scored giving the Pioneers their lone tally.

Murray (2-2) picked up her second win of the season in the circle for the Knights. The Bellmawr, N.J. native relied heavily on her defense as she didn't record a single strikeout, inducing 10 fly outs and five ground outs in her five innings of work. The junior surrendered only two singles before handing the ball off to Schwind, who allowed one run on two hits, both singles, in the final two frames.

Alex Grubiak (3-2) was saddled with the loss for the Pioneers as she went the distance, giving up three runs (1 ER) on four hits.

Arcadia gets a well-deserved day off on Wednesday after playing six games in three days, holding a 3-3 record thus far on its Spring Break trip. The Scarlet & Grey return to action Thursday with two contests against Salve Regina and Suffolk. First pitch in game one is set for 2:15 p.m.
