KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Arcadia softball team earned another split Thursday on its fourth day of its annual Spring Break trip. The Knights opened with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Salve Regina and closed out the day with a 9-1, six-inning win over Suffolk.
Â
The split leaves the Scarlet & Grey at 4-4 on the season as the Knights have earned splits on each of their four days of competition.
Â
Salve Regina 1, Arcadia 0
Mary Pat Murray (2-2) allowed just one run on six hits in 6.0 innings, while not walking a batter and striking out two, but took another hard-luck loss. The junior has allowed six runs (1 ER) in 25.2 inning thus far, pitching to a 0.35 ERA, but has just a 2-2 record. She has recorded 18 strikeouts against just one walk.
Â
On Tuesday, it was an RBI single in the sixth that broke a scoreless tie and gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead. In the top of the seventh,
Jackie Bilotti, who had two of the Knights' three hits, singled to lead off the inning and promptly stole second base, her second stolen base of the contest. Pinch hitter
Camryn Bogert followed with a single that put runners on the corners with nobody out.
Â
The Seahawks were able to induce a double play on the next batter and Andi Nelson recorded her fifth strikeout on the game's final batter to secure the win. Nelson (3-1) allowed just three hits in the complete-game victory.
Â
Arcadia 9, Suffolk 1 (6 Innings)
The Knights' bats came alive in their second game of the day, and
Kylee Schwind threw 6.0 solid innings in leading AU to an easy win.
Â
The Rams struck for a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead, before the Knights plated single runs in the second and third on an error and an
Alexa Vardiman RBI double to make it 2-1.
Â
In the fifth, Vardiman added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-1. Another error by the Rams allowed
Tori Zangrilli to score from third and the Knights' lead grew to 4-1.
Â
Arcadia closed the door on the Rams with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Alex DeStefano led off with a walk and
Kristin Cancelliere followed with a single. A walk to Bilotti loaded the bases, and
Alexis Burge followed with a walk of her own to force in a run. Zangrilli hit a two-run single to make it 7-1 and
Bekah Good made it 8-1 with an RBI single to left. Vardiman ended the game with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Zangrilli.
Â
Schwind improved to 2-2 with 6.0 strong innings. She allowed just one run on one hit and two walks with 10 strikeouts.
Â
DeStefano, Zangrilli and Good all had two base hits for the Knights. Vardiman drove in a team-high three runs, while Zangrilli drove in two and scored twice.
Arcadia wraps up its southern swing with games against Westfield State and Marywood on Friday beginning at 10 a.m.Â
