Softball Completes Spring Break With Two Wins on Friday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Arcadia softball team tallied two wins against Westfield State and Marywood University, 4-0 and 8-2, respectively, ending its Spring Break trip Friday afternoon. With the two victories, the Knights improved to 6-4 on the season.

Arcadia 4, Westfield State 0
A season-high 11 hits, and another stellar outing from Kylee Schwind in the circle, led the Knights to victory.

The Scarlet & Grey manufactured two tallies in the bottom of the first as Alex DeStefano singled to lead off the inning and later scored on an RBI groundout by Alexis Burge. Jackie Bilotti, who singled and stole second in the inning, came in on an error, putting AU up 2-0.

In the second, Morgan Marchesani scored from second base on a throwing error on a DeStefano single, increasing the Knights' advantage to 3-0.

Arcadia added an insurance run in the third as Bilotti again singled and stole second, this time being knocked in by a Bekah Good single, securing the 4-0 win.

Schwind garnered her third victory of the season with 4.0 innings of three-hit ball. The junior struck out three and walked one. Brenna Dolan went the rest of the way, surrendering just two hits and striking out two.

As for Westfield State, Emily Arredondo battled for a complete game loss, allowing two earned runs on 11 hits.

AU's offense was led by Bilotti, who continued her all-around excellence with a season-high three hits, to go along with two runs scored and two stolen bases. DeStefano and Marchesani each chipped in two base knocks each to help pace the Knights.

Arcadia 8, Marywood 2
Brooke Ward pitched 5.0 innings and hit a fourth inning grand slam, boosting Arcadia to the 8-2 win.

In the first frame, Kristin Cancelliere singled to left field, and later crossed the plate on a wild pitch, to put the Knights up 1-0.

That score held until the fourth when Burge led off with a double and Good walked. An error in the infield allowed Tori Zangrili to reach first to load the bases for Ward. Ward unloaded on a grand slam for her first collegiate home run, pushing Arcadia's advantage to 5-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, Marywood responded with a two-run single by Kate O'Meara, cutting the deficit to three.

Bilotti stole back a run for the Scarlet & Grey in the fifth as she swiped home on a double steal, with Burge taking second base.

AU tacked on a two more runs in the seventh as Camryn Bogert reached first on a Marywood error, allowing both Isabella O'Hare and Jackie Zwicker to score, putting the Knights ahead for good.

Ward surrendered two runs on five hits with three strikeouts in her 5.0 innings of work. Mary Pat Murray relieved Ward for the final two innings and shut down Marywood in order with four strikeouts and two fly outs.

As for the Pacers, Kirstie Alvarez went the full 7.0 innings, allowing eight runs (6 ER) on six hits while fanning five.

Arcadia is back on the road as it travels to Franklin & Marshall for a mid-week doubleheader on March 21. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
