Five Hits From Pierfy Leads Knights to Victory

READING, Pa. – Phil Pierfy was a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate as the Arcadia baseball team eased to a 9-1 victory over Albright Friday afternoon. The Knights move to 12-6 on the season and 6-1 in the MAC, as the Lions fall to 5-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

Pierfy put AU on the board in the top of the first with a single to left field to drive in Bryan Gillen, to go up 1-0.

The Scarlet & Grey kept the pressure on in the third as they broke the game open with five runs. In the frame, the Knights used four hits, two walks and one Albright error to garner their runs. Dylan Towey sparked the inning with an RBI single to left field, followed by a Sean Carew bases loaded walk. A Zak Thomas ground out to first base allowed Towey to race home; and a two-run Ryan Bealer single made the score 6-1 in favor of the Knights.

Albright pushed its lone run across in the fifth on a double to left center by Jimmie Gentry to plate Lew Meringo.

Arcadia wasn't done as it tacked on three more runs in the seventh and eighth innings combine. Thomas singled to bring in Pierfy and Nick Ponente drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh. In the eighth, Pierfy hit an RBI double to right field to secure the 9-1 win.

In addition to his five hits, Pierfy recorded two RBI and scored twice. Gillen and Thomas both chipped in two base knocks each, with Gillen crossing the plate three times. Bealer also tallied two RBI and Carew walked twice and scored two runs.

Jeremy Sabathne (4-1) crusied to the win going 8.0 innings of four-hit ball. The right-hander gave up one run while striking out five. Luke Fournier pitched the ninth, surrendering one base runner on a hit with one strike out.

As for the Lions, Will Tokarski (1-3) battled through 6.0 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits before handing the ball off to three relievers who piecemealed the final three innings together.

Arcadia and Albright conclude its three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. First pitch is set for noon.
