Baseball Dominates Albright for Saturday Sweep

AMBLER, Pa. – The Arcadia baseball team totaled 35 runs on 38 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Albright Saturday afternoon. The wins, their fourth in a row, move the Knights to 14-6 on the campaign and 8-1 in conference play. Albright drops to 5-13 overall and 2-7 in the MAC.

Arcadia 27, Albright 4
29 hits, including an 11-run third inning, propelled AU to the game one blowout.

Arcadia put three tallies on the board in the bottom of the first on four hits. After Dylan Towey singled to right center, Sean Carew launched a two-run home run over the left center field wall. A Zak Thomas double to drive in Trevor Mattson gave the Knights a 3-0 lead.

The second inning saw the Scarlet & Grey garner five more runs on six hits and two errors. Towey drove in two runs on a double to left center and a Carew RBI single to right center brought in Towey. Carew came in to score on a mad dash on two throwing errors on a Pierfy pop-up single down the right field line. The scoring was capped off by a Thomas hot shot back up the middle to plate Pierfy, giving the Knights an 8-0 advantage.

The Knights did their most damage in the third as they brought around 11 runners on nine hits and one error. The frame also included two hit by pitches, two walks and was topped off by Carew's second home run of the afternoon, this time of the three-run variety.

Albright pushed across four runs of its own in the fifth as Brandon Daubert launched a solo home run, in addition to RBI hits by Jimmy Gentry and Logan Adams.

The Scarlet & Grey extended their lead again with four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

The Knights offensive onslaught was led by Carew's two home-runs, six RBI and three runs scored. Thomas was right behind him with four hits as well, to go along with three RBI. Towey and Bealer tallied three hits apiece with Towey scoring three times and Bealer driving in three teammates. RJ Giantonio earned his first two collegiate hits as he launched two home runs (solo and two-run) to left field. Four other Knights recorded two-hit games.

Tyler Showers started on the bump for Arcadia. The righty put in 5.0 innings of work, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out seven. Nick Fossile and Colin Bowdish closed out the final two frames, surrendering two hits.

Arcadia 8, Albright 3
The Scarlet and Grey's bats stayed hot as they amassed eight runs on nine hits.

In the first inning, Towey doubled to left center to drive in Bryan Gillen for the first run.

The game zipped along until the fifth inning when the Knights posted four runs on three hits, two errors, two walks and two wild pitches.

Albright earned three runs back in a hurry in the sixth on a Josh Jacavage three-run home run over the scoreboard in right field.

Arcadia fired back with a three spot of its own in the sixth on a Trevor Mattson solo bomb, a throwing error allowing Thomas to score and a sacrifice fly by Tyler Wisnewski.

The Knights' offense was paced by three hits apiece from Gillen and Thomas.

Joel Bartoni (5-0) earned his fourth complete game in five starts this season in game two. The senior scattered four hits while giving up four runs and striking out eight.

Arcadia has a quick turn around as it hosts Rowan on Apr. 1 in a nine-inning affair. First pitch from Skip Wilson Field is slated for 3 p.m.
