No. 7 Rowan Trips Up Baseball

AMBLER, Pa. -- The Arcadia baseball team was tripped up No. 7 Rowan, 15-2 Monday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. With the defeat, the Knights fall to 14-7 on the season, as the Profs improve to 12-5 overall.
 
After Rowan squeezed across a run in the top of the second inning, the Profs scored five more in the top of the third on three hits and two errors. Matt Woods launched a two-run home run to right field to spark the scoring. Anthony Harold then drove in Dillon Mendel via a sacrifice fly. Two Knight's errors allowed two more runs to cross the plate, making the score 6-0.
 
The Scarlet & Grey responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Dylan Towey hit into a fielder's choice, brining in Nick Ponente from third. After Sean Carew was hit by a pitch, Phil Pierfy singled down the left line, driving in Towey, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
 
The Profs put three runs back on the board in the fourth on two hits and two Arcadia miscues.
 
Rowan pushed across a run in the sixth and five more in the eighth on four hits and two more misplays by AU to secure the 15-2 victory.
 
Woods led the offensive charge for the visitors as he went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Anthony Harold and Dan Shane chipped in two hits apiece as well.
 
As for Arcadia, Pierfy and Zak Thomas each garnered two base knocks to help the cause.
 
On the mound, Jean Sapini picked up the win for Rowan, going 6.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits. Zach Listro and Ryan Bush closed out the final three frames as the tandem surrendered no runs on two hits and one walk.
 
Carson Denham was saddled with the loss as he lasted 3.0 innings, giving up six runs (3 ER) on four hits. Mitch Blake (3.0 innings), Adam Maser (2.0 innings) and Matt Wright (1.0 innings) followed Denham and surrendered nine runs (1 ER) on six hits.
 
Arcadia is back on the road Tuesday as the squad travels to Neumann University. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
