FREDERICK, Md. --
Grant Palmer made a career-high 23 saves, but the Arcadia men's lacrosse team fell 13-12 in OT at Hood on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Knights (5-5, 1-1 MAC Commonwealth) led much of the contest, and twice held four-goal leads in the second half before a furious rally from the Blazers (8-1, 1-1) down the stretch forced overtime.
Â
Three straight goals to close out the first half and open the third quarter gave the Knights a 9-5 lead with 12:19 left in the third.
Wesley Sporer scored the final goal of the first half, and
Joe Pedisich opened the third with a pair of quick goals for the four-goal cushion.
Â
Hood scored three of the next four goals to pull within 10-8 by the 1:35 mark of the third, but AU answered with a goal from
Tanner Pajakinas to open the fourth and another from Pedisich to push the lead to 12-8 with 9:53 left.
Â
Four Blazer goals in the final 8:26 allowed the hosts to force the extra session. Grayson Zubradt scored the final two goals for Hood, including the game-tying goal with 1:34 to play. Palmer helped preserve the tie for AU, making two saves in the final 33 seconds to keep the score knotted at 12-12.
Â
In overtime, the Knights won the opening faceoff, but a turnover gave the ball over to Hood with 3:41 to play. The Knights quickly forced a turnover of their own, but Noah Waterlander turned away a shot by Pedisich with 3:35 to play, and 24 seconds later, Hood's Bentley LeBarron took a feed from Zak Kooser for the game-winning goal.
Â
Hood outshot the Knights 49-42 and turned the ball over 18 times to 23 for AU. The Knights won the faceoff battle 15-13, but Hood held a 31-24 edge in ground balls.
Â
In addition to Pedisich's three goals,
Brady Manion added a goal and two assists for three points, and Pajakinas, Sporer and
Clo Muscara each scored a pair of goals.
Philip Hane was 11 for 16 at the faceoff X with five ground balls, and
Josh Keitz added a team-high seven ground balls.
Â
Arcadia is home against Alvernia on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
