GLENSIDE, Pa. -- Two shutouts highlighted a doubleheader sweep on senior day for the Arcadia softball team on Saturday afternoon. The Knights defeated visiting Hood 6-0, then defeated the Blazers 9-0 in a five-inning affair in the nightcap.
Â
The Knights, who have already clinched a spot in the MAC Commonwealth Championships, improved to 24-10 on the season and 12-2 in league play. Hood is now 7-25 overall and 1-13 in the MAC Commonwealth. Prior to the game, the Knights took a moment to recognize its three seniors,
Jackie Bilotti,
Kristin Cancelliere and
Kayla Resh.
Â
Arcadia 6, Hood 0
Mary Pat Murray continued her outstanding season in the circle, shutting out the Blazers over seven innings in improving to 12-3 on the year and lowering her ERA to 0.63. She didn't' allow a run over 7.0 innings, giving up just six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.
Â
Murray got all the offense she would need in the first inning as
Hunter Schantz's long double to right center allowed Bilotti to score from first for a 1-0 lead. In the third, a Bilotti groundout allowed
Kristin Cancelliere to score as AU made it 2-0.
Â
Bilotti drove in Cancelliere again in the fifth, this time with a hard-hit single down the left field line, to put the Knights up 3-0. Schantz made it 4-0 with an RBI single to left that plated Bilotti. Cancelliere added an RBI single in the sixth, as did Bilotti for the game's final runs.
Â
Bilotti and Cancelliere both finished 3 for 4 at the plate. Bilotti drove in three runs and scored twice. Schantz was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and
Kayla Resh and
Alexa Vardiman each went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Â
Arcadia 9, Hood 0 (5 Innings)
Kylee Schwind followed up Murray's stellar performance in the circle with one of her own. She limited the Blazers to just one hit in 5.0 innings without a walk and struck out five. She is now 9-6 on the season.
Â
Also similar to game one, the Knights scored all the offense they would need in the first inning. After a line drive out to begin the bottom of the first, the Knights loaded the bases on a hit batter, a single and an error. Another hit batter forced in a run and made the score 1-0.
Â
In the second,
Morgan Marchesani reached on an error to lead things off and a bunt single and fielder's choice loaded the bases. A one-out walk to Bilotti allowed Marchesani to score and made it 2-0. A Hood error allowed two more runs to score and put AU up 4-0, before RBI triples by
Alexis Burge and Vardiman pushed across two more runs to make it 7-0.
Â
The Knights final run of the frame came courtesy an RBI double by Marchesani that scored Vardiman. Schantz accounted for the game's final run with an RBI single in the third.
Â
Bilotti and Burge each had two hits for the Knights. Vardiman was 1 for 2 with a run scored and two driven in.
Â
The Knights are at Drew on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.
