Baseball Upsets No. 7 TCNJ, 14-6

BLUE BELL, Pa. – The Arcadia baseball team scored 12 runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings to upset No. 7 The College of New Jersey, 14-6 Tuesday afternoon. With the victory, the Knights improve to 23-13, as the Lions fall to 25-7.

The Scarlet & Grey trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. In the frame, AU tallied four runs on four hits. Phil Pierfy sparked the rally with a two-run double to left center. Three batters later, Trevor Mattson laced a single into left field to plate two more runs, pushing the Knights out in front, 6-4.

TCNJ tied the ballgame at 6-6 in the top of the eighth on a RBI triple and a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the inning, Arcadia exploded for eight runs on five hits, one error and four walks, including back-to-back bases loaded free passes, to assure the 14-6 win.

Sean Carew ignited Arcadia's offense with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Four other Knights' recorded two-hit games as well, leading to 13 base knocks as a team. Mattson and Pierfy tallied three and two RBIs, respectively, with Mattson hitting a solo home run. AU walked a season-high 10 times on the afternoon.

Owen Margolis (3-0) earned the win as he threw 2.0 innings in relief, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with one strikeout. Rob Lichtenberger started on the hill and lasted 4.1 innings, surrendering four runs (3 ER) on two walks. Mitch Blake entered next for 2.2 frames, permitting one hit and a onewalk, before handing the ball off to Margolis.

The win marks the Knights' first win over a ranked opponent since beating No. 25 Rowan 10-5 (8 inns.) in March of last season, and the highest ranked foe since knocking off No. 15 TCNJ 9-3 in April of 2017.

Arcadia returns to the field on April 26 at home. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
