EWING, N.J. -- The Arcadia softball team fell to Randolph-Macon, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at The College of New Jersey's June Walker Field.
Â
Kylee Schwind limited the Yellow Jackets (27-14) to one run on five hits without a walk in 6.0 innings. She struck out two and four of the hits she surrendered were singles. Candace Whittemore matched Schwind's effort in the circle for R-MC. She gave up two hits and walked one with 13 strikeouts in 7.0 innings.
Â
The Yellow Jackets' lone run came in the fifth inning on a leadoff double by Ali Celiberti, followed by a sacrifice bunt and a squeeze bunt that scored pinch runner Kaitlyn Deeter for the game's only run.
Â
The Knights had a chance in the seventh as Bilotti doubled to right with one out to bring the go-ahead run to the plate in the form of Hunter Scahntz, the Knights' RBI leader on the year. A strikeout of Schantz, however, followed by a fly out off the bat of
Alexis Burge put an end to the game.
Â
The top of the Knights' lineup accounted for all three baserunners as leadoff hitter
Kristin Cancelliere walked and
Alex DeStefano and Bilotti came through with AU's two base knocks.
Â
With the loss, the Knights will take on the loser of Friday's second game between TCNJ and Mt. Aloysius on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
